In light of the new structure of the Learning and Skills Council with the introduction of regional responsibilities for work based learning, it is encouraging to see the growth in both numbers and influence of training providers where they have formed themselves into associations to engage more effectively with stakeholders at both a local and regional level.

In Hampshire and the Isle of Wight the Association of Learning Providers (alphi) has become the network through which training providers can work collaboratively to share good practice, and to facilitate joint tendering for available funds.  All of this activity will drive up the quality of provision in the area. Moreover, I would like to emphasise that this network, with its strong membership, has developed an excellent relationship with the Local LSC to the extent that the LSC now recognises this group as the key route for communication with the work-based learning network.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage ALL work-based learning providers to join the network and gain from the benefits that the network can offer.

I look forward to working with all of you– and wish alphi every success in supporting us, the LSC locally, to meet our targets over the coming year.
